DataEco Lab

Best Practice and Technology for Enterprise Data Ecosystem and Trusted Data Economy

Data is changing the world from thinking, strategy to practice through its unique impact  to people, systems, technologies, business and organisations.

DataEco Lab offers innovative approaches, solutions and technologies for enterprise data ecosystem management and data sharing and flowing across boundaries for various purposes in the Big Data era.

Enterprise Data Practice and Ecosystem ----- the reality facing our clients

What is Enterprise Data Practice (EDP)?  It is a community of practice conducted in a complex computing environment where data is considered, collected, generated, processed, stored, transformed, managed and used in an organisation. Each organisation has its unique EDP that involves various datasets from different sources, all information systems/computing technologies/data tools, integration solutions, data stakeholders, activities/processes and governance. It is the reality facing organisations, which continuously operates as part of business operation, changes and evolves as an Enterprise Data Ecosystem (EDEco), that is, a human-data-tech ecosystem. Increasing activities in data analytics, data engineering and data governance are conducted as part of EDP in context of EDEco. The status and operation conditions of EDEco demonstrate the data capability of an organisation in the Big Data era and reflect whether EDP is organised and conducted in an effective, healthy and sustainable management practice.

Data industry and the data space in an organisation are changing and evolving with new concepts, approaches and technologies to deal with new data requirements and issues encountered, which are all happening in EDP or implemented in EDEco. Great challenges arise for EDP operation and change management when these individual changes are continuously occurring among the highly entangled and strongly interdependent elements and activities within EDEco.

Frustrations and concerns are growing when on-going EDP is becoming more complex, costly in operation (due to not only fast technology changes, continuous evolution of systems, but also workforce growth and changes), and difficult to manage in its changes and evolution in different aspects. EDP operating as the data capability for an organisation may not fail completely but could face serious data risks, and easily operate with data challenges, various data issues, silent data bugs and failures, and serious data debts in different aspects.

Organisations are facing increasing interests and demands for trusted quality data sharing across areas, boundaries and data trading in marketplaces, while, on the other hand, the government is requiring more effective measures for data security and privacy protection, and trusted data operation and readiness for emerging AI/ML applications.

We can help

EDP management is an emerging requirement and capability for data-intensive and data-driven organisations. It extends management efforts from the existing data focused to the whole EDP. As data security and quality are becoming more critical to these organisations, EDP management is the joint responsibility of CIOs, CDOs, CTOs and executives, especially when data becomes a working asset and core elements of business. Ecosystem-based model-driven approach developed by DataEco Lab unifies the thinking and management practice not only across different data-related areas, that is, data analytics, data engineering and data governance, but also across teams led by CIO, CTO and CDO. DataEco Lab is available to help you if your organisations need to know why, when and where and how teams working in different areas should meet in the data space and effectively work together.

DataEco Lab can work with you to understand challenges facing  your organisation and to identify problems of the current practice in data governance, engineering and management, and shortcomings of existing tools and technologies. Based on methodology-guided process and analysis, we help you with a deep dive analysis of your current EDP and develop a bespoke data strategy and make informed decisions while facing practice dynamics and fast technology changes. EDP management approach empowers your organisation in its digital transformation and evolution with a methodology and capability.

Questions facing our clients

Do you need to effectively manage EDP while its operation costs keep growing; and datasets,  data-related activities and professional teams become pervasive throughout your organisation, and constantly change?

Is your organisation seeking innovative solutions and the best practice to systematically manage continuously changing EDP and EDEco, and to facilitate and coordinate increasing data engineering activities as part of enterprise data engineering and enterprise architecture practice?

Does your organisation need effective methods and functions to establish a single source of truth on the information and  knowledge about data practice and ecosystem, and to provide much required discoverability, visibility and observability through multi-dimension lenses and flexible views?

Does your organisation need effective practices to unlock data values and enable smooth data flows across boundaries in rising trusted data economy?

Do you know what kinds and levels of data debts your organisaiton is facing if longstanding problems and challenges in EDP remain and are continuously accumulated?

We offer

DataEco Lab is a research and development company focusing on innovative approaches and emerging technologies for managing enterprise data ecosystems and enabling data productisation for purposes of data sharing and trading in the rising  data economy. We offer alternative solutions and the best practice to improve stakeholder's capability and confidence for data-driven organisations, through using its innovative ecosystem-based approaches and tools. We help organisations in understanding, examining and addressing data risks and debts, and preventing serious EDP failures in different aspects.

For each client, we work with your organisation to develop tailored and bespoke EDP management practice, in order to effectively control and manage complexity and cope with challenges in the Big Data era. EDP management practice is to empower an organisation in planning and implementing many individual  concept-based, method-based or tech-based strategies or transformation initiatives, such as MDM, data mesh, data product management, cloud-migration, and integrated metadata management.
